“Live from the Underground” By Dexter “Tefman” Patterson
Well Big K.R.I.T is definitely living up to all the hype. The 2011 XXL Freshman of the Year, is back on the road promoting his newest LP “Live from the Underground”. Being a man with Southern roots myself, I find Big K.R.I.T's music to be an accurate reflection of the southern lifestyle. His lyrics and delivery are on point and his music is refreshingly original kind of like the early sounds of pioneers like Outkast. For example, Big K.R.I.T's collaboration with legendary blues musician B.B. King is simply genius. The combination of classic southern Hip-Hop and B.B. King on Lucille, is something any music fan should appreciate. Songs like “I Got This” and “Money on the Floor” represent the type of records Hip-Hop artists make in order to expand their fan-base. He also showed he could hold his own with a few industry heavyweights. I feel like we have just started to see what Big K.R.I.T is capable of doing musically. At the young age of 25, Big K.R.I.T's message seems to transcend the monotony of what I hear most of the time in the industry.
Big K.R.I.T's “Live from the Underground” Tour comes to Madison, WI on Saturday July 14th at The Barrymore Theater. The last time Big K.R.I.T came to Madison I felt was one of the best Hip-Hop shows I've seen in a long time. Alongside Freddie Gibbs, Smoke DZA, and Jackie Chain, the 24 year old up and coming rapper from Mississippi packed the house in Madison, Wisconsin. If your looking for something to do on Saturday July 14th, I’m a confident this show will be worth the $20 cover. Also performing with Big K.R.I.T are Madison favorites Flame the Ruler, Dill, and the Vilas Park Sniper.
